GROUNDING…..the history



Over the last century mankind – as a species – has lost something absolutely vital to its wellbeing – its connection with the Earth. So much of our lives these days are spent separated from the Earth…be it by plastic, rubber or other insulating materials – we even have insulated mattresses!

It is easy to recall that walk on the beach or playing barefoot in the garden and remembering how much better we felt afterwards for the experience. This connection with the Earth gives us so much benefit…mentally and physically…all backed up by proven scientific method, observation and conclusions.

Planet Earth is a massive store of negatively charged free electrons. If we are unconnected from this supply our bodies cells cannot balance the positive charged electrons that our bodies are subjected to every second, of every minute, of every hour of every day. To balance these electron imbalances we can do several things, drink living water for instance or eat foods rich in anti-oxidants, but currently there is an increasing awareness of using the reservoir of free electrons offered by the Earth herself.

One other effect of earthing (or grounding as it is sometimes referred to) is especially relevant in our culture due to the use of the many electrical appliances and instruments that have entered our daily lives in recent years. Our environment is packed with electromagnetic radiation emitted by many of the popular and “necessary” items we use on a daily basis. Power lines, domestic wiring, mobile phones, computers, radio and TV broadcasts…in fact most electrical appliances that you can think of emit some amount of radiation.

Grounding, or earthing, refers to connecting electrically with the Earth.

The simplest way to be grounded is to go outside and place your bare feet or hands on some grass or earth, or to immerse yourself in a body of conductive water such as the sea or a mineral-rich lake.

The most immediately noticeable effect people report from being grounded is that they ‘feel better’. This has been described as a feeling of greater peace within themselves, feeling calmer with reduced stress levels. If there is pain present then often this is reduced or disappears completely.

People who notice negative effects from using computers or other electrical equipment report a reduction or elimination of these effects when grounded.
